There have been plenty of awesome battle reports coming in over the last couple of months that I've been too lazy to post, but there was no way I could let this one pass without comment. It's the first one I've seen to put Obama and his well-known superpowers to use in combat, to truly stupendous effect. This is a moment that will shape history.

The pictures aren't the best quality, but from start to epic conclusion this is truly a battle not to be missed.

As all experienced BrikWars players know, playing with Lego, combined with learning that rules are made to be changed, leads directly and inevitably to massive psychotic explosions of violence. Surprising no one, this is the combination of factors that lead SkyNet to destroy humanity, as shown on tonight's episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

As much as I hate to promote anything on the Fox network, I felt that this one had to be shared.

January Tournament at Loki's Games in Portland, Oregon

Nemo20k announces an upcoming tournament in January at Loki's Games in Portland, OR:

Loki's Games announces their first BrikWars Tournament in Portland, Oregon to be held on January 21, 2009 starting at 5pm.

All Players must pre-register, and must have an approved army list ready *before* Jan 21. We will be hosting army list workshops on Dec 10th, 2008 and Jan 7th, 2009 from 4pm until 8pm.

For our first tournament only:
Army lists are limited to 75 CP's, TL 3.
There will be no victory conditions, other than to wipe-out your opponent.
Rounds will last up to 1 hour each, with ten minutes between.
Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places, plus some give-aways.
Registration is limited to 8 slots.
Entry Fee is $5.
We are using the PDF version of BrikWars 2005 Chapters 1-6.

Combat Serials

On Death War Day 2, NatalyaAF maneuvers her Assyrian cruiser to place the Czech fighter inside the barrel of the main cannon, right before hitting the fire button.

December seems to be the month for daily-update combat serials, starting with Reasonably Clever doing a QuikWars version of their annual LEGO Advent Calendar feature. It's the Town Calendar versus the Castle Calendar, fighting to the death while both attempt to free the imprisoned Santa Claus from evil Martians.

Pesgores followed up a little bit later with "Superproject Codename: Persogoras," a play-by-forum battle between the Rebels (played by Moronstudios), the Empire (OneEye589), the Pirates (Bonn-o-Tron), and the Droids (IVhorseman).

Last but not least, NatalyaAF followed suit with the Death War Project, making up for its later start with some of the best BrikWars action photography to date. The combined-forces battle sets the Assyrian Star Empire (pesgores and NatalyaAF), the Czech Republic (Moronstudios and AmmoMan), the Space Ninjas (Theblackdog), the Space Pirates (Rody), and the Gludavian Raiders (Niflheim) in deadly combat from clashing ground forces up to the mighty Assyrian space cruiser.

DaCheez's Firefly-Themed Battle

In space, no one can hear your squad get sucked out a hull breach

Mercenaries, Alliance, and Reavers, oh my! DaCheez spent more photos on his troops messing with the space station's environmental controls than on what were reportedly some heavy firefights, but watching squads get crushed by artificial gravity and sucked out airlocks is pretty entertaining nonetheless.

Bluebright's hit the scene with what have to be the funniest pair of battle reports I've read in a long, long time. The artistic use of minifig blood (and of hot lava) should serve as an inspiration to all players.

What's more, he's included time-lapse videos for each battle, which is also awesome.

Durandalski's Mission Battle

Mayhem!

Durandalski and his sister toss over a hundred troops at each other, in a semi-heated battle between the forces of Commander Roland of Morfair and Princess Liader of Brinstar. Each side rolled dice to determine their secret mission objective, and then sent their armies into a battle of cataclysmic... surrendering.

Fortunately some of the surrendering units turned out to be faking it.

Durandalski's report includes the following passage, which is very satisfying:

"We estimated that over half of each of our forces, that's nearly 60 minifigs, were killed in an area about 1 and a half feet square. The bodies were piled up on each other, and the living had to be propped up on top of the dead. I also sniped my own medic, after he failed six revival attempts."

Oleetku fighters!

I came across a couple of BrikWars reviews today - the first is great for its use of the term "Brick nipples," but the second is simply amazing. It may be the single best BrikWars review I've ever listened to. It's only four episodes after the Dwarf Fortress review, and they only used the phrase "really retardedly broken" once.

The verdict: "This is a game where you can have dueling spider robots covered in ninjas crashing into each other under an airship exploding."

ktBombshell's stingray man is a pretty cool guy. He kills Steve Irwin and doesn't afraid of anything.

Tactics 101 at Armchair General

Nice. But the name makes me wish their logo was an armchair in uniform.

Armchair General is putting up a pretty awesome series of articles - "Tactics 101," in which they cover a specific tactical concept each month and describe how to use it in play. While most BrikWars games will never reach this level of seriousness, I still find myself wishing I'd discovered this series months ago.

Led by the football-obsessed Piltogg, the Minnesota Gamers Guild is making a name for itself for its genocidal crusades. Earlier struggles of ethnic cleansing against peach-colored minifigs are now being followed up with battles to wipe out the forces of Mega Bloks.

This time around we've got dimension-hopping side quests, demon gates, assassins at McDonald's, exploding horses, a soldier with a grenade for a head, a mech with its feet on backwards, and HOT MAGMA. Not to mention an accounting error that destroys the world.

Looks like I'm not the only one to discover the wonderous potential of the Fire Ring

Andrew Colunga's ingeniously-named LEGO WAR GAME reminds me a lot of the Lego wargames I came up with as a kid, right down to the advanced graphite-on-paper publishing technology. The big difference is that his system resulted in several epic battles, while mine never got off the ground.

Weird War II: NELUG's forbidden Nazi secrets game

Nazi paranoia over possible turncoats and spies causes some internal friction.

NELUG rings in again with another battle of amazing constructions and unnecessarily Byzantine rules as always - to the point that no one can sort out afterwards exactly what happened, but the photos are awesome nonetheless.

From Elroy's description on the forum:

"I'd write up a battle report, but, honestly, parts of this battle were so complex as far as who was fighting who, that I'm not sure I'd get any of it right at this point."

... "Add in a few spies and traitors on both sides and eventually no one knew who was on what side, so you basically shot at anyone who was shooting at you.

After losing one arm, the Green Golem uses the other one to projectilize this storm trooper.

Deep in the ancient recesses of Portugal, the forces of Pesgores are battling away in a series of conflicts described only as Triangle Jobs. While the meaning of this phrase remains perpetually ambiguous, you can expect to see wildly malfunctioning rocket launchers, stormtroopers used as projectiles, and massive casualties from friendly fire.

Saturday Smash Off and Almost Agro Arena

In the heat of battle, proper medical procedures may sometimes be compromised

Olothontor and Kidko have found a novel use for the BrikWars forums - they organized a live feed for their Saturday battle, each posting photos and play-by-play commentary during their opponent's turn, allowing the forum audience to watch the battle in progress and comment along the way.

The battle itself is the usual chaotic explosion-packed romp. Although sadly lacking in the obligatory catclysmic world-destroying fireball at the end, the event bodes well for similar exhibitions in the future.

Meanwhile, Moron Studios are back again - this time with a new memeber, Oppo. His inaugral Vikings vs. Skeletons battle, "Almost Agro Arena," saw more intensive use of the Medik than any battle report to date, including a botched operation towards the end with impressive results.

The Dimmy Army fights true to form, using a frying pan, a buzzsaw, and an oar to retardedly damage themselves

Red Clay Studios' debut battle breaks new ground in a number of important areas, while keeping true to the traditions of its classical predecessors. The Dimmy Army led by a Dimmy Mage has been witnessed before in the Battle for Nagateppo, but never used with such power and Dimmy precision, bringing about the Classik BrikWars Ending in perfectly executed form.

This report also marks the first sighting of what will inevitably become BrikWars tradition - the use of peach-colored minifigs for menial slave labor and subsequent execution. It's institutionalized racism at its finest!
