Here’s a couple for the oldies…

Hearkening back to the good ‘ol days of Classic Space, Pete Reid (legoloverman) presents LL-612, his excellent, modern take on a theme that many of us loved.

And heading forward a few years I give us a modernised take on the robots and buggies common to Futuron.

Anna needs to really stop hitting on me. It's painfully obvious that she's attempting to flirt with me, and it should be painfully obvious that there is a strong DO NOT WANT going on. of course, i don't want to be rude, etc. etc, so i only have to put up with it for about a month, and then i never see her again. man, that whole concept that i'm never going to see some of these high school people again is strange. Jesse Slim? never gonna see her again. Bridgee? gone. Giant Max? Juan Alonso? Chris Emilo and the stoners? Hilary? Evan? gone. Sami and John Quinata and George and Steve will all be dust in the wind, off to do their own things, never to speak to me again. is it bad? not necesarially. i wouldn't say it's good either, but it's definitely interesting to think about.

meanwhile, i have a horrible chem test tomorrow. Mr. voss decided to be cruel, and the day before the AP test, we have a test. then we have the test. then we have a final. little whore! but still, i love him. hah. regardless, it's a test where we have to memorize and regurgitate every single equation we ever use in chemistry, and even some we don't use. also, constants. oh, i am going to learn SO MANY different jingles and songs tonight it will be INSANE. also, poli sci test tomorrow!

in good news, we got pizza today. i also finished my cartooning project (made a story board for the music video for Electric Eye, by Judas Priest). and i got my mom earrings and a necklace for mother's day today. whoo! unfortunately, wal-mart has a terrible selection in legos, and for some reason, REFUSE to have any sets with treads in them. NO! i lie. there was a mars mission lego set, that had em in bright fucking orange. ew.
LV-16p by Tony Hafner

Oh yes, orange is beautiful. Tony Hafner’s LV-16p truck sports a high-contrast paint scheme and is equipped for prospecting:

Harfleur under siege
brothers_brick - Friday May 9th, 2008 - 4:42am

According to Wikipedia, the French town of Harfleur changed hands between the English and the French repeatedly between 1415 and 1562, including being pillaged by the Huguenot.

I’m not sure which particular incident Brickshelfer Reejoc is illustrating with this Castle creation, but things don’t look good for the residents of Harfleur:

T-301 Advanced Main Battle Tank by Jas Nagra

Jas Nagra’s latest tank is smooth and shiny:

See the Brickshelf gallery for more pictures, along with all of Jas’ previous tanks.

Scharnvirk’s starfighter
brothers_brick - Thursday May 8th, 2008 - 11:12pm

Jarek (aka Jerac) deviates from his usual style of building spaceships to create this alien starfighter, claiming to have watched too much of my works. This ship reminds me of a flying face of death, and the colored reflections on the hull add a nice rust shade of texturing to the craft. I had originally thought the model contains brown elements, but it’s black, tentacly -certainly a mutated spaceship.

Fabuland crosses black fantasy
brothers_brick - Thursday May 8th, 2008 - 10:57pm

Jordan Schwartz’s (SirNadroj) fascination with the Fabuland theme is spreading its presence to everywhere. His latest work encroaches upon two themes of my world: surrealism and black fantasy. The result is something dynamically hilarious in my opinion. Nice work Jordan, way to bring the Fabuland happiness plague to the dark realm of interdimensional and biomechanical despair :)

It's really good when I can just link to TV Tropes, because then I know you'll have hours of reading without me having to do anything else.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky flaptters by Horace Cheng
brothers_brick - Thursday May 8th, 2008 - 7:52am

I didn’t think that Horace Cheng could improve on the wonderful flaptters (from Hayao Miyazaki’s Laputa: Castle in the Sky) we featured here a couple of years ago, but Horace proves me wrong with a “version 2″:

Laputa Flaptter on Flickr

Though I kind of miss the grill, the overall shape is much better, and the chain works rather well for the safety rail. The Photoshop job certainly adds to the charm, with “Laputa: Castle in the Sky” in Japanese (天空の城ラピュタ).

Dragonator defends the Ravine Tavern against a goblin horde
brothers_brick - Thursday May 8th, 2008 - 5:59am

Reader ExoBuilder sends word of a great Castle creation called “The Ravine Tavern” by Dragonator:

The half-timber house presents a nice contrast to the stonework, and I love the tree-lined street. Go Crown Knights, go! (Though I think the goblin horde is pretty darn cool.)

It’s a rad deck, Dude.

British Steel
ivhorseman - Wednesday May 7th, 2008 - 6:55pm
So i just recently discovered that i like british heavy metal, specifically. specifically british. why? i have no fucking idea. but i love it. thank you, pandora!

meanwhile, ohmygod this week is stressful. AP tests, and Mr. Voss is throwing in a bunch of crazy shit at us just to watch us dance. he's giving us a final after the AP test, and it's another AP test. but created by Mr. Voss, so it's even harder. bwahhhh. luckily, he's offering extra credit. substantial extra credit. unfortunately, it's a LOT of work. fortunately again, i SHOULD be able to bump that shit up to a C, so yey. YEY I SEY.

also, i really want to do super fun stuff after AP tests. not just the "lets sit around and circle jerk" nothings, but like... well, let me just give examples.

- Galen wants to set up a game of DnD in english class. finally i'll get to play, but with who? if we're lucky, we could maybe get Baldwin to play - or even better, DM!

- I want to bring rock band into a class. i brought Guitar Hero to Jaffe's last year, and this year i'd like to get a more teamwork oriented game in. in a perfect world, it'd be mr. voss's class, and we'd convince Mr. Voss to sing.

so basically, after... next week, i'm fucking DONE with high school. sure, there's kathy's class, but seriously. fuck kathy. she's just teaching us stats right now, which i am the master of. the master.

Recently, Brent Wolke (thwaak) posted a public request for unwanted LEGO pieces. As a surprise, I sent him some babies. Brent surprised me back by building a slew of creative MOCs to incorporate each one of them. Here are some highlights from the full gallery.

As my public announcement, please feel free to send your lego to Brent!

Bandwagon mayhem
brothers_brick - Wednesday May 7th, 2008 - 7:10pm

Adrian Florea (Olog) mashed together some of the curretly hot bandwagon themes into an action-packed diorama. Without scrolling down to the answers, what themes do you recognize?

Answers: cave racers, black fantasy, frogspace, post apoc, and fabuland

Brown Fantasy
brothers_brick - Wednesday May 7th, 2008 - 7:03pm

In a conversation with Justin Vaughn (Mainman), I jokingly challenged him to make a creature in the theme of Brown Fantasy, a spin-off of Black Fantasy. Should I be surprised? Yes, I have every reason to be.
